Showalter Apiaries
Our pure spring wildflower honey is extracted from the honey comb with a spinning extractor, then strained to remove any impurities and bottled. We never heat the honey, which removes all of the great qualities of honey. Comparing our honey to most store bought honey is like comparing a store bought tomato to a home grown tomato. There is no comparison! We offer it in a variety of different sizes and styles of jars, and have added plastic containers as well this year for those who don't mind the plastic, it is more affordable. Prices will be set when the first harvest is in.
Our gourmet quality, pure spring flow honey comes from the first nectar flows of the spring season, the harvest is strained and bottled in these Antique Style Gourmet 8oz Muth Jars that were made with an 1800's mold, then corked to seal in the finest pure honey the wild flowers of the Shenandoah Valley have to offer. The Muth Jar has a skep on it with pure honey written in the glass and looks like it came straight from early America. This high quality Pure Gourmet Honey is in limited supply. Propolis Hive Scrapings are available for you needs. Propolis has amazing anti-bacterial qualities and has been used in European Medicine for years.
Pollen is another great product that we have to offer. Upon requests, we will install pollen traps on the hives to harvest pollen for you. We don't harvest pollen unless we receive a request for it.
Honeybee Swarms
For swarm removals in the Rockbridge, Aleghany, and August areas: call 540-348-3123 as soon as a swarm is found! Don't wait. Swarm removals are free of charge
Colony Extractions
If you have a colony of honeybees in your house, barn, etc., we can extract the bees and remove the honey. You can not simply spray and kill the bees. Without the bees there to maintain the honey comb the wax will deteriorate causing hundreds of pounds of honey to start oozing from your walls and ceiling. If you have a colony of honeybees in your house call Ruben to set up an appointment for him to come inspect the situation. There is a small fee for the initial inspection and extraction prices are based on the situation
Pollination Services
If you are in need of pollination services in Virginia or West Virginia, we do not do pollination at this time. However, we plan to start pollination services in the 2008 year. Contact Ruben if you would like to talk about reserving between 10 and 25 hives for pollination in 2008.
